Value Stream Mapping
This location uses value stream mapping to calculate the takt t time for each essential department. (VSA, Instant Return, Maintenance, Counter, Gold Choice, and Exit Gate.) This is then broken down into subgroups of value added, non-value added, and business value added. The purpose of this is to determine if there is any opportunity to reduce the takt time and in return improving employee productivity. Also on the VSM you will find Kaizen bursts that identify areas of opportunity for the location. The opportunity bursts are in red and the accomplishment bursts are in green. The location Six Sigma Project Manager is then responsible for updating the VSM every six months. During this time they also have to present the results to the senior management team within the region. Typically at the location you will find two versions of the map, a current state and a future state. The current state gives a snap shot of how the location is currently performing; the future state shows the ultimate goals that they are hoping to accomplish.
